Sekwila Mumba in Miss World contest

MISS Zambia 2008 second princess Sekwila Mumba will represnt the country at this year's Miss World final set for Johannesburg on December 12.

Sekwila, 24, is currently in London on a tour as part of the Miss World build-up programme.

An information systems specialist, Sekwila describes her participation in the global pageant as a dream come true.

The Lusaka-based model is among 120 contestants representing their respective countries at the event.

Pageant Zambia director Elizabeth Mwanza announced Sekwila's participation at the event in a statement to Weekend Post.

She said the contestants are expected to take part in charity event in the run-up to the finale.

"For the charity fund raising dinners in London and Johannesburg, Zambia’s auction gifts are Zambian national team soccer jersey signed by Kalusha Bwalya and a necklace made purely of Zambian silver and gems, valued at $250 donated by Bobili Gems," Mwanza stated

She announced that the month long festival in celebration of women’s beauty, talent, fashion and culture began in London where the contestant were expected to attend a Variety Club charity fundraising gala dinner and the The World Travel Market Awards.

She added that the contestants will then travel to Abu Dhabi for a five-day tour before proceeding to South Africa for a month long tour of the country.

Mwanza noted that contestants will have an opportunity on the Blue Train Journey across South Africa, a three-day safari, the FIFA World Cup 2010 Draw in Cape Town, among other adventures.

Sekwila’s trip has been sponsored by Zambia Tourist Board, Avocado Beauty SPA, and wardrobe by Sefyeni Designs, Dodo fashions and Fay Designs.
