Hataw Beauties Medal Awards (Part 3 of 3)

Hataw Beauties Medal Awards 2008 is my personal tribute to the people and beauties who shaped the Pageant world of 2008 and made it an exciting ride at every twist and turn.

Nominees and winners from different categories - from gowns to costumes, and from faces to dresses - are my own personal choices.

These, in my opinion, are the people and events that have defined beauty pageants of 2008 at its best.

The Big4 Pageants deserve applause for bringing the best and the greatest in beauty pageants year after year..

Hataw Beauties

The Philippines has always been a perfect venue for beauty pageants simply because the Filipinos love everything about beauty pageants. If you've seen the last part of the pageant telecast of Miss Earth 2008, you've seen the beautiful smiles, the dances and the joys that reflects among the candidates.

Runners Up:

Silver Award: South Africa – Miss World & Vietnam – Miss Universe
Bronze Award: Japan/Macau – Miss International

Nominees:

1. Vietnam – Miss Universe
2. Japan/Macau – Miss International
3. Philippines – Miss Earth
4. South Africa – Miss World

Hataw Beauties

Miss Universe's overall production in 2008 was commendable. Miss Earth needs to be more polished. Miss International was better and original. The disappointment was with Miss World, it was dull and boring.

Runners Up:

Silver Award: Miss Earth & Miss International
Bronze Award: Miss World

Nominees:

1. Miss Universe
2. Miss International
3. Miss Earth
4. Miss World

Hataw Beauties

Lady Gaga's Just Dance was lively and indeed perfect for a swimsuit round in Miss Universe. In Miss World, McFly's number was better than that of Alesha.

Runners Up:

Silver Award: McFly (Miss World)
Bronze: Alesha Dixon (Miss World)

Nominees:

1. Lady GaGa, "Just Dance" (Miss Universe)
2. McFly "Lies" (Miss World)
3. Alesha Dixon "The Boy Does Nothing" (Miss World)

Hataw Beauties

Miss Universe's stage design is always a reflection of the colorful culture of its host country. Miss Earth was predictable..it deserves better stage design, something that is worthy for international audience. Miss World's stage design in Johannesburg was simple, the designs in 2005-2008 were better. On the other hand, Miss International has produced an standout and unique stage design in Macau, something worthy for this award.

Runners Up:

Silver Award: Miss Universe
Bronze Award: Miss Earth & Miss World

Nominees:

1. Miss Universe
2. Miss International
3. Miss Earth
4. Miss World

Hataw Beauties

Jerry Springer & Melanie Brown have the energy and liveliness needed for a pageant's exciting finale. I still want to see them in Miss Universe 2009.

Runners Up:

Silver Award: Angela Chow & Tumisho Masha (Miss World)
Bronze Award: Billy Crawford, Priscilla Meirelles & Riza Santos (Miss Earth) & Eric Tsang, Carol Cheng & Astrid Chan (Miss International)

2. Eric Tsang, Carol Cheng & Astrid Chan (Miss International)
3. Billy Crawford, Priscilla Meirelles & Riza Santos (Miss Earth)
4. Angela Chow & Tumisho Masha (Miss World)

Hataw Beauties

Miss World has attracted the most number of standout beauties in 2008 but the pageant telecast was quite boring for me. Miss International's final telecast was better compared to its previous telecasts, but the pageant should give us more excitement when it comes to pre-final activities. Miss Earth is already up there in terms of quality, but the pageant can still be better. Miss Universe may not be perfect, but it's the pageant of 2008 that gave me the most excitement: the national costume competition, the swimsuit competition, the presentation show, the interviews in the official website and the finals night.

They are the beauty queens who competed from one beauty pageant to another. Some have succeeded on their first pageant and lost the next time, and vice versa.

The last time Ecuador made it to the finals of Miss International was in 1970, that was 38 years ago. Jennifer Pazmiño Saldaña's Top 12 showing in the Miss International 2008 in Macau is commendable. Ecuador, which failed to send delegates from 1973 to 2001, 2003 & 2005, should consider to continue its participation in the Miss International pageant.

Japan has been a consistent semifinalist in Miss International. For some pageant observers, it happens because Japan owns the Miss International. It is the same scenario that happens for Miss USA in Miss Universe and Miss Philippines in Miss Earth. But Japan's 16 years straight presence in the Miss International finals is unbeatable.

But for this award, Mexico beats Japan. Mexico has been a finalist in Miss Universe and Miss World for five straight years now. That is something worthy of this award. At this age and time when Miss Universe and Miss World has becoming more competetive year after year, consistency is worthy of an appreciation.

Runners Up:

Silver Award:
Japan (Miss International)
Bronze Award: USA (Miss Universe)

Nominees:

1. Mexico (Miss Universe) 5 straight years – 2004 to 2008 / (Miss World) 5 straight years – 2004 to 2008

RECOGNITION AWARDS:

These are my choices in the Grandslam Pageants of 2008. Some were personal favorites, others were chosen based on important factors (sash, politics, history, etc..):

In Miss Universe, my top favorite Taliana Vargas of Colombia finished in second place. Three P's in my list didn't make it: Panama, Philippines & Puerto Rico. Another personal favorite, Alizée Poulicek of Belgium, missed the Top 15. In Miss International, top favorite of mine, María Cristina Díaz-Granados from Colombia, finished in second place in Macau. Belarus, my other favorite, failed to crack the semis.

In Miss Earth, my top pick, Adriana Reverón of Spain, failed to grab a spot in the final four. My sentimental favorite, Ria Antoniou of Greece failed to make the cut. The Miss World in South Africa was the most easiest game to win. Russia's Ksenia Sukhinova was a sure winner from day one. My other top favorite, Danielle Castaño of the Philippines, missed the semifinals.

Recognizing the four beauties who topped Hataw Beauties Top Choices of 2008, here are Taliana, Maria Cristina, Adriana & Ksenia.

REVIEW: Colombia is the current leader!

Colombia has won 7 medals (4 golds & 3 silvers) out of the 14 categories in the first round. Colombia has also earned 11 nominations - the highest - among other countries.

Zana Krasniqi has impressively won 4 medals for Kosovo, while Manasvi Mamgai's 2 gold medals in the Non-Big4 Categories has put India to 3rd place.

Spain has earned 10 nominations but only managed to get a silver medal. Will this country be able to win more awards in the next rounds and beat Colombia for the most number of nominations?

Top 3 Countries with more medals winning: Colombia (7 medals), Kosovo (4 medals) and Russia (4 medals).

Hataw Beauties Medal Awards will give you the results of the next 2 rounds next week. See if Colombia will be able to maintain its leadership in the Medal tally.
